MUJI / RYOHIN KEIKAKU + Drawing And Manual + Ray Kunimoto, 2016, Digital Installation
The MUJI design team, the masterminds behind objects used in almost every facet of our daily lives, discussed the theme of Aging.
Just as people and things age, lifestyles also evolve with a person's life stage.
One starts out living alone, then with another, and then forms a family, and goes back again to two. These changes, just like the rings of a tree, are a slow and prosperous process of growth.
A "chair", an object used in the lives of many, was chosen as the motif to express the Aging of lifestyles. By adding different parts to the oak stool sold at MUJI, this chair turns into things like a baby chair, a rocking horse, and a rocking chair.
This video installation and the music created in collaboration with DRAWING AND MANUAL and Ray Kunimoto is a poetic portrayal of the people sitting in their chairs and their ever-changing life that flows with the passing of time.
